Just 11 km from Mount Abu, Achalagarh Fort was built in the 14th century as a vantage point to keep an keep an eye on enemy movements. There is a famous Shiv temple, Achaleshwar Mahadev Temple and Mandakini Lake within the complex of fort. In the center of the temple, there is a sculptured image of Nandi which is made of 5 metals (bronze, gold, zinc, copper & brass).
Gaumukh temple is a prominent Hindu sacred site. Dedicated to Nandi, the divine bull of Lord Shiva (his vehicle), there is a striking statue with a water stream falling from the mouth of the bull. Devotees and tourists throng the temple in equal numbers, as the temple offers a panoramic view of the city.
Nestled in between the two famous Aravali peaks -Achalgarh and Guru Shikhar, Peace Park is a part of the Brahma Kumaris (sect) establishment. The park consists of a rock garden with wide variety of Cactaceae, and also houses an orchard, a citrus corner and floral displays. There are also various places where people can meditate and several quiet spots in the tranquil environments of the park. The Brahmakumaris provide a guided tour of the park.
Just 2.5 km from Mt. Abu, the Dilwara Jain temples were built between the 11th and the 13th century. The amazing and brilliant use of marble in the architecture, the ornamental carvings and the flawless stone laying technique make it one among the most beautiful pilgrimage spots in the world. The temple complex consists of 5 temples which are unique to the Jain culture and lotus like engravings on the ceilings and the different scenes from Jain and Hindu mythology represented through carved marble sculptures are sure to leave you awestruck.
Guru Shikhar, is the highest point of the Aravalli Range. 15 km from Mount Abu, ‘the peak of the guru’ after Dattatreya, an incarnation of Vishnu, and a cave at the summit contains a temple dedicated to him, plus one dedicated his mother, Anasuya, wife of sage Atri nearby. Adjacent to the temple is the Mt Abu Observatory operated by the Physical Research Laboratory. This observatory hosts a 1.2m infrared telescope and also several Astronomy experiments.
Nakki Lake is the largest man made lake at the height of 11,000 meters in India. It is also a sacred lake for the Garacia tribe of Rajasthan and at the time of their festival in Shukla paksha which falls in April month it is the place of worship and remembrance of their ancestors. Shri Raghunathji Temple, Toad Rock, Sunset point and the Maharaja Jaipur Palace in Mount Abu are all close to it.
